LOS ANGELES –
Meghan Mandel earned her first career double-double, while also scoring her career high of 24 points against Santa Clara University in Gersten Pavilion Tuesday afternoon in the Lions' 79-65 loss over the Broncos.
While Mandel had two career firsts,
Chelsey Gipson also set her career high in assists with eight.
The Lions opened up the game to a tight first quarter, as they took the first lead of the game. The Broncos tied things up and the teams exchanged the lead five times. LMU closed out the first quarter down 14-13.
Santa Clara went on an 8-0 run to open up the second quarter and took their first double-digit lead. The Broncos continued to extend their lead, and closed out the half on top of the Lions 42-24.
The Lions went on a 9-0 run in the third to cut their deficit, and then closed out the third with a 7-0 run to end the quarter down 53-46. LMU battled throughout the fourth quarter, cutting down SCU's lead to just eight at one point, but the Broncos continued their momentum and closed out the game with a 79-65 loss.
Mandel led the team in points, as well as rebounds with 24 and 11, while Gipson led the team in assists with eight, and also scored in the double-digits with 12.
Ari Johnson led in steals with four, while
Khari Clark and
Nicole Rodriguez both had one block each.
The Lions shot 38 percent from the field, 17 percent from behind the arch and 79 percent from the line. LMU had 35 total rebounds, compared to SCU's 30, 10 steals and 17 assists.
The Lions will be back in action on Thursday to take on Saint Mary's for the Pride in Pink game.
