LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's water polo team (3-4, 1-1 WWPA) hosted Pepperdine (3-1, 0-0 GGC) in a non-conference edition of the PCH Cup. The game was back-and-forth early before the Waves pulled away in the second half to take the game to take the game 14-11.
The Lions trailed 2-0 early, before
Joseph Shaw put the Lions on the board with his first of four goals in the game. Pepperdine built up a 3-1 lead, but LMU clawed back to carry a 5-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
The Waves evened the score to open the second period before
Tyler Harvey gave the Lions lead right back. Pepperdine took a 7-6 advantage into halftime.
The third quarter opened the game back up for Pepperdine, with the visitors scoring five of the seven goals in the period.
LMU closed the game with the final three goals of the match, as
Joseph Cavazos,
Jonny Rimlinger, and
Joseph Shaw all scored in the final minutes before the clock expired.
Robert Halligan recorded 12 saves in his 32 minutes in the cage.
The Lions are next scheduled to host San Jose State in the final home game of the regular season. The Feb. 19 game will also recognize the LMU senior class.
