LOS ANGELES – The No. 15 Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team were the aggressors all match and opened the 2020-21 season with a 1-0 victory over UCLA on Friday night at Sullivan Field.

The Lions, who were playing their first nonconference game of the year, start the season 1-0-0 with the win. LMU had previously hosted Hope International in an exhibition last weekend prior to playing the Bruins.

LMU's Ronaldo Brown scored the game's only goal, putting his team up in the 31st minute. The junior forward netted a header on a cross from Narciso Cervantes that snuck inside the far post. The goal was setup by the pinpoint pass from Bastien Oberli that put the play in motion.

The Lions Jacob Jackson was superb in goal, picking up his first clean sheet of the season. Jackson, turned away the Bruins attempt at an equalizer late in the game punching away a free kick bound for the upper-left hand corner. He came across and made a diving swat with his left hand to turn away UCLA's best chance of the night.

LMU's defense was on full display as they held the Bruins to just a pair of shots with one coming in on goal. The Lions, however kept pressure on the Bruins throughout the match putting up 11 shots with six on goal.

LMU returns to the pitch for their first road game of the season when they travel to San Diego and take on the Toreros. The match will be the final nonconference game of the season and is scheduled for Sunday, February 21st at 1:00 p.m.
