SAN DIEGO – LMU women's volleyball lost in three sets to nationally-ranked San Diego, 25-19, 25-21, 25-11 on Thursday night.
After LMU opened the game with a point, USD took the next five in a row. The Toreros led 11-5 before LMU tied the set at 11-11 with
Megan Rice at the service line. From that point San Diego scored 12 of the next 15 points to lead 23-14. LMU looked to stay in the set with the next five straight points with
Mary Shroll serving. USD closed out the game with the final two points to take the early 1-0 advantage.
San Diego took a lead of 9-3 after LMU tied the game at 3-3. With the Lions trailing 20-11,
Isabella Bareford and
Rose Booth combined for three aces as the Lions closed the gap and made it a 21-17 game. The Lions cut the deficit to as little as three points before San Diego won the game, 25-21.
The Toreros controlled the third set from the start, allowing only 11 points from the Lions, to clinch the match.
Rice led the Lions with 10 kills, while
Isabella Bareford added 25 assists.
The Lions will close out the road trip at BYU on Saturday.
