SAN DIEGO, CA. – The Loyola Marymount University Lions women's swimming team traveled down to San Diego and faced the Toreros in a dual meet Saturday afternoon.
The Lions came off a solid meet last weekend that produced the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Athlete of the Week in
Lily Gallagher but fell to the Toreros 182-98.
Gallagher continued her impressive start to the 2021 season with a win in the 1000 free posting a time of 11:08.75, a near 13 seconds better than the next finisher.
Once again the younger Lions set the pace in the competition, led by Sophmore
Heidi Ly who earned one of three Lion victories winning the 200 backstroke in 2:12.79. Freshman
Natalie Hogenboom captured another victory for the Lions in the 500 freestyle with a season best time of 5:21.33.

Abby Shaw also had a strong day for the Lions coming in second in the 100 free at 55:72, third in the 50 free at 25.65 and tying for second with freshman teammate
Ashley Leaman in the 100 butterfly in 59.96, a tenth of a second behind the leader from USD. Leaman returned to the blocks 10 minutes later to place second in the 200 individual medley overtaking two Toreros in the final 10 yards. It was Leaman's third close race of the day as she earlier had battled three Toreros stroke-for-stroke in the 200 butterfly placing fourth with a personal best time of 2:14.04.
The Lions return to the pool next weekend when they host Pepperdine for a dual meet on Saturday, November 6th at 11:00 a.m.
