SAN DIEGO, CA. – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (10-4-1, 2-2-0 WCC) got goals from
Jack Sauls and
Ronaldo Brown and steady goalkeeping from
Jacob Jackson to pick up their second win in West Coast Conference play as they beat the University of San Diego 2-1 on Wednesday night.
The Lions were the aggressors most of the night outshooting the Toreros 14-9 and having the advantage in both shots on goal 8-3 and corners 7-2.
LMU got on the board first on the set piece in the 19th minute.
Noel Caliskan took the free kick and it found Sauls who sent his shot past the Torero keeper to give the Lions an early lead.
Less than ten minutes later San Diego got the equalizer, sending the game into a 1-1 tie at the end of the first half.
The Lions pulled ahead in the 67th minute off the foot of Brown when he struck the ball and it found the bottom left of the goal giving LMU a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The Toreros, in the waning minutes, put pressure on the Lions but Jackson turned them away at every chance giving LMU their second conference win of the season.
The Lions return to the pitch when they host Saint Mary's at Sullivan Field on Saturday, October 30th with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
