Lions Post Top Times Over the Weekend

LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Loyola Marymount University Lions women's swimming team hosted their first home swim meet of the season and welcomed Grand Canyon University, San Diego State, and Seattle University to Burns Aquatics Center Friday and Saturday afternoon. The two-day four team meet saw the Lions post top times in their first competition at Burns for the 2021-22 campaign.
 
The 200 freestyle saw the Lions Lily Gallagher post a fifth place finish with a time of 2:00.05 followed by Caitlin Basulto swimming a 2:03.18. The 50 free had Abby Shaw post a solid time of 24.90 and Kelli Andrade touch at 25.87 for LMU.
 
Ashley Leaman took to the starting blocks in the 200 Individual Medley and was the top finisher for LMU, posting a time of 2:14.65 followed by Heidi Ly when she touched at 2:15.96. Leaman was the Lions top finisher again in the 100 free when she posted a time of 54.95, good for sixth place. Ly was the standout swimmer for the Lions in the 100 backstroke with her top time of 1:00.89.
 
Andrade posted the Lions highest finish on Friday afternoon when she touched at 1:08.85 in the 100 breaststroke, for a fourth place finish.
 
The Lions returned to the pool on Saturday morning and got started on a high note. Holly Prince posted a top-four finish in the 1000 freestyle with her time of 11:16.90 with Basulto right behind, touching at 11:20.86. Gallagher kept the Lions momentum going with her top time of 2:00.83 in the 200 free followed by Natalie Hogenboom's 2:04.32.
 
The 500 free had the Lions top finish over the course of the weekend and it came from Gallagher. She finished the race in third with her time of 5:23.54 and she was followed by Prince's time of 5:31.84.

The Lions posted point totals of 92.50 versus SU's 111.50, 65.00 versus SDSU's 132.00 and 50.00 versus GCU's 154.00 on Friday. On Saturday LMU scored 99.00 points versus SU's 100.00, 44.00 versus SDSU's 159.00, and 46.00 versus GCU's 157.00. 
 
The Lions return to the pool next weekend when they travel down to San Diego and take on the Toreros on Saturday, October 30th beginning at 11:00 a.m.
