LOS ANGELES – Despite LMU outshooting the visiting Portland Pilots, it was an overtime goal that broke a nearly 94-minute shutout on Saturday night at Sullivan resulting in a 1-0 home loss by the Lions.
LMU opened the game on the offensive, outshooting the Pilots 8-1 in the first 45 minutes, including three corner kicks by the 23
rd minute. Despite the chances, LMU was unable to put the ball in the back of the net and the two teams went into halftime nil-nil.
The second half numbers played a little more evenly as LMU held a 4-3 advantage in shots, but the Pilots accounted for three of the four corner kicks.
Portland ended the game in the 94
th minute with a give-and-go play that allowed the attacking player to slip it right past
Jacob Jackson in net.
Jackson recorded three saves on the night, one in each period of the game.
Ronaldo Brown led the Lions with four shots on the night.
Dylan Shockey,
Narciso Cervantes, and
Jack Sauls each recorded two shots apiece and one each on target.
After playing at home for the first time in over a month, the Lions will head right back on the road to play at San Diego for a midweek game on Wednesday before hosting Saint Mary's on Sullivan Field Saturday night.
