SOUTH BEND, IN. & ROCKLIN, CA. – The Loyola Marymount Men's and Women's Cross Country teams took to two different courses yesterday in South Bend, Indiana and Rocklin, California. The men's team had a top-10 finish while the women's team finished fifth overall.

The Lion men competed in their first ever Joe Piane Invitational and participated in the Gold Race.
Estanis Ruiz led the way for LMU, finishing with a time of 25:10.6 followed by
Miguel Barrera-Lopez at 25:44.6 both good for top 50 finishes.
Â
Roberto Ruelas was the next Lion to finish the 8k with a time of 26:12.3 and was quickly followed by
Zach Arias at 26:15.3 and
Shane Ely at 26:16.0.
Ethan Frisone finished the race at 26:25.7 while
Max Smith crossed the finish line at 26:47.0.

The strong performance by the Lion men placed the team in tenth place overall with a total of 274 points.

The Lion women took to Johnson-Springview Park for the Sacramento State Invite and had three runners post top-25 results.

Leading the way for the LMU women in the 6k was
Samantha Barajas with a time of 21:46.9, good for 11th overall. Barajas was quickly followed by
Lilly Schmidt who finished 15th overall with her time of 22:01.4. Rounding out the top-25 finishes for LMU was
Avery Doan with a new personal best of 22:41.4 which placed her 23rd overall.

Anastasia Russell was the next Lion to finish in Rocklin when she crossed the line at 23:02.9 followed by
Kaitlyn Childress at 24:12.7 and
Shelby Page at 24:29.1.

The strong performance on the course led to a fifth place overall finish at 119 points for the women's team.

Both teams will be back on the course for the Bronco Invitational on Saturday, October 16th.
