LOS ANGELES – Karrisa Cook has been hired on the Loyola Marymount beach volleyball staff, announced by head coach
John Mayer on Friday. Cook will be filling in for assistant coach
Betsi Flint who is currently on maternity leave, but plans to return in June.
Head coach
John Mayer said, "We are so thrilled to add Karissa to our team this season. She brings a wealth of experience as a coach at both the college and juniors level. She's also one of the top professional beach players in the country. She'll add so much value as she's a really cerebral and versatile player who understands all the intricacies of the game. Mainly, we are just thankful to have such a high-quality person who is eager to learn and is a great role model for our coaches and athletes."
Cook played her college career at Stanford University as a setter, leading her team to three PAC-12 Championships. Post-graduation, she extended her career at the University of Hawaii as team captain and led the team to the National Semi-Finals as well as making an appearance in the Pairs Championship. She received her Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from UH.
Cook assisted Stanford University in kick starting their beach volleyball program in 2015.
In 2019, Cook won her first AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) tournament in Austin, Texas with her partner, Jace Pardon. The pair later went on to win a gold medal in the Pan American Games representing the US.
Karissa Cook is highly decorated, winning gold medals in the international Snow Volleyball 3's and World Championship in women's beach 4's at the ANOC Beach Games.
Cook join Mayer and
Joseph Mayer this spring to kick off the Lions 2021 season starting February 27.
