RESULTS
MALIBU – The Loyola Marymount University Lions women's swimming team returned to the pool after nearly a year hiatus when they opened the 2020-21 season against Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference foes Pepperdine and San Diego.
Head Coach
Bonnie Adair was eager to get her team back into the pool to compete and was encouraged by the results and excited to see her newcomers perform.
Adair welcomed eight new freshmen to the team to go along with a solid nucleus of returners to navigate the abbreviated campaign.
The Lions opened their day competing in the 200 medley relay where the combination of
Heidi Ly,
Kelli Andrade,
Anna Doherty and
Abigail Shaw posted a time of 1:53.24 which was the fastest time for LMU in the event.
The 200 freestyle saw freshmen
Caitlin Basulto and
Bailey Woinarowicz get their first taste of collegiate competition where they posted times of 2:05.69 and 2:08.34, respectively.
Shaw had a strong showing in the 50 freestyle with a first-place finishing time of 25.09. Her performance was eleven-tenths better than the second place finisher in the event.
LMU posted encouraging results in the 200 IM by
Holly Prince and 100 backstroke by Ly,
Bebe Choroser and
Alyssa Stovall.
In the final event of the day, LMU's 400 freestyle relay team of Shaw, Ly,
Alexis DeBever, and Basulto placed third with a time of 3:49.10.
The Lions return to the pool for their lone home meet of the season when they welcome Pepperdine and Westmont College on Saturday, February 20. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
