LMU Loses to Santa Clara on the Road

SANTA CLARA – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team had an intense first quarter against the Santa Clara Broncos, but it wasn't enough to take the win, as the Lions fell 76-60. 
 
Aspyn Adams opened up the game with a three-point shot, but the Broncos quickly responded with another three to tie things up. The Lions had an exciting first quarter, as there were five ties and three lead changes. Down three, Raychel Stanley made a basket from behind the arch at the buzzer to tie things up heading into the second quarter. 
 
The Lions took the lead to open up the second after a layup from Jasmine Jones, but the Broncos tied things back up and took the lead back. Santa Clara went on a 10-0 run to take a double-digit lead over the Lions. The Lions trailed the Broncos 43-29 to leave the half. 
 
Another tough quarter, the Lions battled in the fourth, but the Broncos maintained their lead, ending the quarter up 60-44. 
 
The Lions were able to cut their deficit by 10 in the fourth, but the Broncos held onto the lead and closed out the game on top of the Lions 76-60. 
 
Jones led the Lions in points with 11, while Adams and Khari Clark both had 10 a piece. CiCi Ellington led in rebounds with nine, while Jones had eight. Ellington also led the Lions in assists with seven. 
 
LMU went 38 percent from the field and 28 percent from behind the arch, while the Broncos went 42 percent 40 percent. The Lions had 35 total rebounds and 15 assists, compared to Santa Clara's 41 and 18. 
 
Up next: The Lions will head to San Francisco to take on University of San Francisco on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
