LMU Picked to Finish First in West Coast Conference

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University beach volleyball was picked to finish first in the West Coast Conference, announced by the conference this week.

The Lions received the maximum 36 total points allotted, which was voted on by the team's head coaches. While the Lions are No. 1 in the conference, they are heading into the 2020 season with a No. 8 preseason ranking, according to the AVCA Preseason Poll.

Pepperdine was picked to finish second this year with 31 points. The Waves were picked to finish first last season, but the team was defeated by the Lions at the West Coast Conference Championship, as LMU beat the Waves twice to take the title.

LMU is picked to finish first in the conference after going 27-11 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

WCC Freshman of the Year, Reka Orsi Toth, as well as first or second team all-conference honorees, Bo Culo, Emma Doud, Jessie Priichard and Savannah Slattery were all named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. The Lions hold five of the 11 spots.

The Lions are led by head coach John Mayer and assistant coach Betsi Flint and are already off to a 2-1 start this season.
