Lions Poised for A Pair of Midweek Games

The Loyola Marymount University Lions baseball team (2-1, 0-0 WCC) fresh off their series win against Pac-12 opponent Washington will now set their sights on UCLA and Cal State Bakersfield for a pair of midweek games.

LMU will return to Jackie Robinson Stadium for the first time since the NCAA Tournament's Los Angeles Regional where they pushed then No. 1 UCLA to a fifth and deciding game before falling to the Bruins.

The game will see the Lions tangle with the No. 8 Bruins, giving head coach Nathan Choate his first battle against a nationally ranked opponent. First pitch for tomorrow night's game is slated for 6:00 p.m.

The Lions return to Page the very next night and host Cal State Bakersfield for their only Wednesday midweek game of the season. LMU will look to extend their 11-game winning streak against the Roadrunners when they take the hill at 6:00 p.m.

Cooper Uhl and Trevin Esquerra have stormed out of the gates early as they both feasted on Washington pitching over the weekend. Uhl heads into the week with a batting average of .625 to pace the Lions. He also boasts two runs scored, five hits, one double, three RBI and three stolen bases.

Esquerra is sitting on an average of .429 with three hits, three runs scored, one double, three RBI and one homerun. His hot bat led to six free passes over the weekend which sees him ranked sixth in the country in walks.

Cole Roberts has acclimated nicely into the Lions lineup and is second on the team in hits with four, with a double and an average of .400.

The Lions rotation was effective over the weekend against the Huskies with Josh Agnew shutting down Washington on Friday night followed by Nick Frasso posting five strikeouts on Saturday. Sean Paquet was solid in his 2020 debut, giving the Lions five innings in no decision Sunday afternoon.

LMU will look to continue their winning ways before they head out for the first of five straight road weekend series. The first will be in Huntsville, Texas when the Lions take on Sam Houston State for the first time in school history.
