Jones Earns Eighth Double-Double, Three Lions Score in Double-Digits Against Waves

LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount University women's basketball player Jasmine Jones earned her eighth double-double of the season Saturday afternoon in the Lions' 77-66 loss against Pepperdine. 
 
The Waves put the first four points on the board, the Lions responded, but the team was not able to tie things up or take the lead. LMU closed out the first with a layup and two made free-throws, to only trail the Waves by three. 
 
Esther Oluade opened the second quarter up with a three-point shot to tie things up, her first field goal of the season. LMU took its first lead of the game after a three-point jumper from Aspyn Adams, the Lions then extended their lead to four. Pepperdine responded with a 15-0 run, which included three consecutive threes. The Waves closed out the half up 40-29. 
 
The Lions went on a 7-0 run in the third to cut their deficit to nine, but the Waves maintained their momentum, closing out the third up 61-48. 
 
LMU continued to fight in the fourth, outscoring the Waves 18-16, but it wasn't enough to take the win.  
 
Jones earned her eighth double-double of the season after posting 15 points and 10 rebounds, landing at the third place spot in the West Coast Conference. CiCi Ellington and Raychel Stanley also scored in the double-digits, with 12 a piece. Adams led the team in assists with six. Jones and Adams both had two steals a piece. 
 
LMU scored 40 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arch, compared to the Waves' 48 and 44 percent. The Lions made 48 percent of their free throws, while Pepperdine made 39 percent. LMU had 44 total rebounds and 17 assists, while the Waves had 33 and 15. 
 
Next up: The Lions will stay at home next week, as the team will host Portland and Gonzaga in Gersten Pavilion.
