Box Score LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team held a close first half against No. 13 Gonzaga, as the team closed out the second quarter tied, but the Lions dropped the second half, closing out the game 75-47.
LMU set the tone in the first quarter, starting with a jumper from
Raychel Stanley, Gonzaga responded, but then the Lions went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-5 lead. The Bulldogs weren't able to tie things up or take the lead all first quarter. The Lions outscored Gonzaga by four points in the first, leaving the quarter up 21-17.
The Lions continued their momentum throughout the second quarter, not letting the Bulldogs take the lead. LMU left the half tied with Gonzaga 30-30.
Gonzaga responded in the second half, as the Bulldogs went on a 8-0 run to take the lead early in the third. LMU put 10 points on the board, but it wasn't enough to maintain the lead, as the Lions closed out the half down 44-37.
The Bulldogs kept their momentum going in the fourth, going on several runs and closing out the game with a 75-47 win over the Lions.
CiCi Ellington and
Raychel Stanley led the team in points with nine a piece, while
Jasmine Jones led in rebounds and assists with seven and three.
Ellington,
Esther Oluade and
Khari Clark all had two steals a piece. LMU shot 39 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arch, while Gonzaga shot 43 and 40 percent. The Lions had eight total assists and nine steals.
