LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team lost its game against University of the Pacific on Saturday afternoon in Gersten Pavilion, as the team fell 87-70.
The Lions put the first three points on the board, after a layup from
Jasmine Jones and then a free-throw from
Laura Vaida. Pacific tied things up and took the lead. LMU was able to tie things up one more time in the quarter, but Pacific ended the first on top 29-17.
LMU picked up its momentum in the second quarter, as the team went on a 13-2 run to close out the second, outscoring the Tigers 15-9 to leave the half only trailing by six, 38-32.
Pacific came out in the third quarter on a strong note, extending their lead to double digits. The Lions battled, cutting their deficit to six, but the Tigers continued to push their lead and ended the third up 68-52.
The Tigers took a 20 point lead in the fourth, the Lions fought, but it wasn't enough to catch up with Pacific. LMU closed out the game down 87-70.
Chelsey Gipson led the Lions in points with 20, while
Raychel Stanley had 14 and CiCi Ellington had 13. Stanley led the Lions in rebounds with six, while Ellington led in assists with four.
Khari Clark and Megan Mandel both had two blocks a piece.
The Lions shot 45.3 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from behind the arch. LMU had 29 total rebounds, while Pacific had 40.
Up next: The Lions will head up north to take on San Francisco and Santa Clara.
