LOS ANGELES – A pair of 1-0 teams will compete on Saturday, then meet again Monday night for a pair of games in the Twin Cities. Following opening night wins, the LMU men's basketball team (1-0) has arrived in Minnesota to play the Gophers (1-0) for a pair of games from Williams Arena. Tip is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. PST) on Saturday and 7:00 p.m. central time (5:00 p.m. PST) on Monday.
The Lions, who were lifted by five double-digit scorers on Wednesday, will face a Minnesota program that defeated Green Bay by 30 points (99-69) behind four double-digit scorers to open the season. Marcus Carr scored 35 points to match his career-high and lead the team.
Eli Scott's career body of work puts him among the nation's best. Entering Friday, Scott's 1,114 career points rank 48
th among active DI players, his 285 assists rank 44
th, and his 577 rebounds is 20
th.
Scott and Antony Ireland are the only two to record 1,000+ points, 500+ rebounds, and 250+ assists in their career. No LMU player has scored 1,000+ points, grabbed 600+ rebounds, and dished out 300+ career assists, a feat Scott is approaching.
The two programs have met once before, the final non-conference game of the 2004-05 season, with Minnesota winning. This will be the first time that LMU has played the same opponent in consecutive games since that same season, with LMU playing The PCH Cup against Pepperdine to close the regular season and open the WCC Tournament in 2005.
