LOS ANGELES – Former Loyola Marymount University softball player Sam Fischer signed to play professionally with the California Commotion in the National Pro Fastpitch League, announced by the team on Monday.
Fischer was a 3-time All-Pacific Coast Softball All-Conference selection, while also earning PCSC player of the year twice. The infielder holds the record for batting average, homeruns, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs scored, doubles and walks.
In her 2012 season, Fischer led the nation in batting average and slugging percentage with a .492 and .665, respectively. LMU inducted Fischer into the LMU Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, retiring her number 52 jersey.
Fischer first started her career in NFP competition in 2016, as she played two seasons with the Akron Racers. Following her time with the Racers, Fischer played for the independent professional team, Scrap Yard Dawgs, and also played in the Japanese Professional League with the Toda Medics in 2018-19.
"I am really excited to be part of a brand new team and to not only represent professional softball but my home state of California," commented Fischer. "I'm excited to see how we compete in the 2020 season and I couldn't be more thrilled to continue my professional career."
"It's great to have one of our most decorated alumni representing the new California Commotion," said head coach
Sami Strinz-Ward. "I'm so glad the NPF has a team in Southern California and even more excited that they chose Sam to represent them. She is everything that is right about the game: passionate, hardworking and a great team player. I know this will continue to inspire our current team and generations to come."
The California Commotion will complete their 2020 roster later this month.
