Jones Scores Career High in Lions' Game Against Portland

PORTLAND, Ore., Jasmine Jones scored 26 points in Loyola Marymount University's game against Portland, setting a career high in LMU's 74-49 loss to the Pilots. 
 
Jasmine Jones made the first basket for the Lions, which tied things up. Jones then made a layup off of a turnover, which gave the Lions their only lead of the half. The Lions and the Pilots tied things up three times during the first, but Portland closed out the quarter on top 14-11. 
 
The Lions battled in the second, as they were able to tie things up once, but the Pilots responded and took the lead back and ended the quarter up 33-25. 
 
The Lions were able to cut the deficit by six in the third, but then the Pilots went on an 11-0 run and maintained the double-digit lead for the rest of the quarter. Jones scored her 24thpoint in the third, which marked her career high, which was 23. The Lions left the third down 52-41. 
 
Jones put two more point on the board to extend her career high to 26. The Pilots ended the quarter with a run to close out the fourth up 74-49. 
 
Jones led the team in points with 26, while Chelsey Gipson had 13. Jones and Laura Vaida both had nine rebounds a piece. Aspyn Adams and Khari Clark both had two steals a piece, while CiCi Ellington and Gipson both had three assists. 
 
The Lions shot 38 percent from the field and 18 percent from behind the arch. LMU had 35 total rebounds, compared to Portland's 38. The Lions had eight total steals and 11 assists. 
 
LMU will head to Spokane to take on Gonzaga on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
