SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Loyola Marymount University basketball team closed out its road trip against No. 13 Gonzaga. The Lions weren't able to leave with a win, falling to the Bulldogs 78-52.
Gonzaga opened up the first quarter with a basket,
Chelsey Gipson responded with a layup and then gave the Lions the lead after she hit a three-point shot. The Bulldogs responded and took the lead, ending the quarter on top of the Lions 22-14.
The Lions continued to battle in the second, cutting their deficit to seven, but the Bulldogs kept their momentum and ended the half up 35-26.
Raychel Stanley opened up the third with a layup, but Gonzaga continued to extend their lead and closed out the third down 54-40. The Bulldogs continued their momentum in the fourth, and won the game 78-52.
Gipson led the Lions in points with 14 and went 6-7 at the line, while CiCi Ellington led the Lions in rebounds and assists with six and three, respectively, while also putting up 13 points.
Jasmine Jones led the team in steals with five, while Nami Yim had three.
The Lions shot 30.4 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line. LMU had 25 total rebounds and nine assists, while Gonzaga had 40 and 16.
