SAN FRANCISCO – Despite
Eli Scott's 11
th career double-double, and fourth of the season, LMU cooled off after intermission and could not retain their first half lead. The Lions (7-12, 1-4 WCC) lost their fourth straight game, falling 61-53, at San Francisco (14-6, 3-2 WCC).
LMU built up a first half lead by as much as eight points, as a 10-0 run gave the Lions a 22-14 lead with 6:54 on the clock.
The Dons scored the final five points of the first half, to cut it to a two-point game at the break, 28-26, before retaking their early lead with the next five points after intermission as well.
Back-to-back layups by Scott and
Keli Leaupepe pushed LMU ahead for the final time, 32-31, with 15:17 remaining.
San Francisco extended their lead to 10 points on two separate occasions, before finishing with an eight-point win.
After shooting 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from the field in the first half, LMU only made 33.3 percent (10-for-30) of shots in the second half, including a 1-for-11 clip from three after intermission.
Scott led the team with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. His 11
th career double-double breaks a tie with Wyking Jones and moves Scott into a five-way tie for 13
th in program historu with Vernon Teel, Kenny Hotopp, Forrest McKenzie, and Drew Viney.
Ivan Alipiev added nine points off the bench, as a trio of Lions scored six points apiece between
Jordan Bell,
Erik Johansson, and Leaupepe. All eight Lions to play scored.
LMU outrebounded USF, 33-28, including doubling the home team up on the offensive boards, 12-6. Three of Scott's 10 rebounds game on the offensive glass.
The Lions will return home for two games next week, hosting Portland and Saint Mary's on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
