Career-Nights by Leaupepe, Dortch Fuel Lions to WCC Victory

LOS ANGELES – Both Keli Leaupepe and Parker Dortch recorded their first 20-point games of their careers to lift LMU (8-12, 2-4 WCC) to a double-digit win over Portland (9-12, 1-5 WCC) on Thursday night. The Lions also benefitted from the first non-points double-double in program history, as Eli Scott grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.

The Lions never trailed, opening the game with a Parker Dortch three. Erik Johansson made it 12-3 game with back-to-back threes, three, his 99th and 100th of his career. Johansson is the 19th Lion to hit the milestone of 100 made threes.

LMU used a 15-2 run to extend the lead to 29-12 with 5:50 remaining in the first half. During the run, only Dortch and Leaupepe scored with the duo scoring eight and seven points, respectively, during the run.

Dortch broke his career-high in the first half with 18 of the team's 37 points at intermission. Leaupepe hit the final three of the half to make it a 37-28 game at the break.

The closest Portland came the rest of the way was within seven points at the 18:00 minute mark and with 16:22 remaining.

Leaupepe started the game 6-for-6 and finished 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from three to finish at 24 points. The freshman also set a new rebounding mark with his eight boards. Leaupepe is one of only four Lions all-time to shoot at a 90 percent clip with a minimum of eight makes.

Scott hit his second field goal of the game to cap a 7-0 LMU run with 9:13 remaining and the Lions ahead by 16. Despite only taking four shots, the junior recorded his 12th career double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Scott found a cutting Deovaunta Williams in the final minute of action to hit the double-digit assist mark and tie Bo Kimble and Richard Dixon for 11th all-time with 12 double-doubles.
