LOS ANGELES – Both
Keli Leaupepe and
Parker Dortch recorded their first 20-point games of their careers to lift LMU (8-12, 2-4 WCC) to a double-digit win over Portland (9-12, 1-5 WCC) on Thursday night. The Lions also benefitted from the first non-points double-double in program history, as
Eli Scott grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
The Lions never trailed, opening the game with a
Parker Dortch three.
Erik Johansson made it 12-3 game with back-to-back threes, three, his 99
th and 100
th of his career. Johansson is the 19
th Lion to hit the milestone of 100 made threes.
LMU used a 15-2 run to extend the lead to 29-12 with 5:50 remaining in the first half. During the run, only Dortch and Leaupepe scored with the duo scoring eight and seven points, respectively, during the run.
Dortch broke his career-high in the first half with 18 of the team's 37 points at intermission. Leaupepe hit the final three of the half to make it a 37-28 game at the break.
The closest Portland came the rest of the way was within seven points at the 18:00 minute mark and with 16:22 remaining.
Leaupepe started the game 6-for-6 and finished 9-for-10 from the field and 4-for-5 from three to finish at 24 points. The freshman also set a new rebounding mark with his eight boards. Leaupepe is one of only four Lions all-time to shoot at a 90 percent clip with a minimum of eight makes.
Scott hit his second field goal of the game to cap a 7-0 LMU run with 9:13 remaining and the Lions ahead by 16. Despite only taking four shots, the junior recorded his 12
th career double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Scott found a cutting
Deovaunta Williams in the final minute of action to hit the double-digit assist mark and tie Bo Kimble and Richard Dixon for 11
th all-time with 12 double-doubles.
LMU's 22 assist is the most against a Division I school this season. The six turnovers from Portland are the fewest from an opponent this season against the Lions.
The Lions outshot the Pilots, hitting 51.9 percent (27-for-52) of shots compared to Portland's 33.9 percent (13-for-26).
Following LMU's fourth consecutive win over UP, the Lions will host Saint Mary's on Saturday at 6 p.m.
