The Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team (2-1) got a late-game penalty kick that found its way to the back of the net and muscled their way past the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

The Lions and Ramblers played to a scoreless tie in the first half with LUC outshooting LMU five to three. The defense on both sides was strong in the first portion of the game with the offense finding it hard to get shots and shots-on-goal.

The Ramblers found themselves with a pair of corners in the first half but the aggressive Lions defense took those opportunities away and both teams headed to the locker room all square at zero.Â

The game opened up in the second half with the Lions being the aggressors outshooting the Ramblers 10-4. The aggressiveness on the offensive end in the second half also netted the Lions six corner kicks compared to one for the Ramblers. In all the Lions outshot the Ramblers 13-9 and in corners 6-3.

The Lions took full advantage of a penalty in the box by the Ramblers which led to a
Francis Avoce penalty kick in the 79th minute. Avoce's PK went past the Ramblers keeper and put LMU up 1-0 which turned out to be the winning goal for the Lions.

The Ramblers mustered only one shot after the Avoce goal. The Lions defense was more than up to the task of stopping LUC and walked away with a very hard fought 1-0 victory.

th when Sacramento State pays a visit with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.
