Werner Scores First Career Goal in Double-Overtime Draw

LOS ANGELES – LMU earned their second tie of the season on Friday night, as each team found the back of the net in the span of less than two minutes in the second half. LMU (0-3-2) kept Drexel (2-0-1) from winning their third straight game.

Simone Handy played a through ball to the running Madison Werner who timed it perfectly to get behind the defensive line of the Dragons. Werner took little time to slot the ball into the corner of the net to give the Lions the lead in the 63rdminute.

Following the ensuing kickoff, Drexel worked a corner kick nine seconds after the goal and played in a ball that LMU was able to avoid danger on, but Drexel kept possession and equalized with 64:03 on the clock.

Neither team was able to push ahead through the remainder of regulation and overtime, resulting in a tie after 110 minutes of action. LMU outshot the Dragons 14-6 in the match, and doubled up the visitors in corner kicks, 4-2. Handy and Werner combined for half of LMU's shots.

The Lions will now leave Sullivan Field to play a pair of games in Pullman, Wash. LMU will open next week with a Friday contest against Texas Tech on a neutral field, then play the hosts Washington State Cougars on Sunday afternoon before returning to Los Angeles for two home games the next week.
