#24 Lions and #13 Titans End Thriller With 1-1 Draw

The #24 Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (5-2-2) went 110 minutes with the #13 Cal State Fullerton Titans in a seesaw battle of two of the nation's top #25 ranked soccer teams and left Titan Stadium with a 1-1 draw.

The Lions didn't waste any time getting on the board as their aggressiveness paid dividends early in the match. In the 9th minute Gaetan Roux received an assist from Nick Dauchot and put the ball in the back of the net giving the Lions the early 1-0 lead.

With LMU in the lead, both teams played to a near draw the remainder of the first half with the Lions totaling three shots, one on goal, compared to two shots for the Titans with one of them on goal.

In the first twenty minutes of the second half the Lions relied on their defense to turn the Titans away as CSUF put seven shots up compared to one by LMU. The Lions defense was more than up to the challenge and heading into the 78th minute CSUF's Diego Useda was issued a red card giving LMU a man advantage.

The Lions' CJ Neville tried to push LMU ahead by two but his shot in the 81st minute was saved by the Titans. CSUF managed to get the equalizer in the 83rd minute and both teams traded a pair of shots before the end of the second half and headed into overtime tied 1-1.

In the first overtime session the Lions were the aggressors putting up two shots and one corner compared to zero by the Titans. The Lions weren't able to push anything across and the teams headed to a second overtime session. In the second session the Lions sent four shots but nothing could get through, and in the end played to a 1-1 draw.

The Lions now head back to Sullivan Field on Thursday, Oct. 3 to take on the UC Irvine Anteaters at 7:00 p.m. before they travel outside the state of California for the only time this season to take on Western Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 6 with kickoff set for 10:00 a.m.
