LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount women's volleyball team (7-6, 1-0 WCC) swept Santa Clara 3-0 in its home opener and first conference match of the season on Thursday night in Gersten Pavilion.

The Lions started off West Coast Conference play on a strong note, as LMU opened its first set of the match with a quick win over the Broncos. The Lions first got on the board from a service error, and then tied things up with Santa Clara after the Broncos made an attack error. The Lions quickly took the lead at 3-2 after a service ace from
Jessie Prichard, and held onto it for the rest of the set. LMU took its first double digit lead of the set at 24-14, while going on a 7-0 run to win the set 25-14.

Meredith Teague opened up set two with a kill. The teams battled through the second set, as there were six tie scores and four lead changes. The Lions fought until the end, and then came out with a 25- 21 win.
The Lions kept up their momentum in the third set, as LMU put the first two points on the board. Santa Clara quickly tied things up and kept the set neck and neck, as the teams tied up the score 11 times and there were four lead changes. Tied up at 21-21, the Lions went on a 4-1 run to take the set, starting with a kill from
Savannah Slattery. An attack error gave the Lions their 25 point to win the set 25-22, sweeping the Broncos 3-0.
Slattery led the team in kills with 14 and a .290 attack percentage, while
Rose Booth had nine and .318. Prichard led the team in assists, with 29, while
Bo Culo had 11 digs. The Lions had seven total blocks compared to the Broncos 4.5.
Up next: The Lions will continue conference play this week, as the team will host San Francisco (4-8, 0-1 WCC) on Saturday in Gersten Pavilion. The Lions swept USF last season, as the team beat the Dons 3-0 and 3-1. LMU is 52-16 against USF all-time. The first serve will be at 1:00 PM.
