LOS ANGELES – After falling behind by three goals, the LMU women's soccer program showed their fight and clawed back into Sunday's game. Second half goals by
Sydney Schultz and
Olivia LaCasto cut down the deficit, before UCSB held on for a 4-2 win.
The Lions (0-7-2) fell behind following a hat trick from Murison Shaelan with goals at the 16
th, 25
th, and 57
thminutes.
In the 67
thminute,
Amber McCorkle fired a shot over the keeper that hit the crossbar and popped out to the top of the box.
Jackie Fiacco played the rebound and fired the ball back towards the six yard box where Schultz was able to redirect it to the corner of the netting to put LMU on the board.
Less than five minutes later, on an ensuing LMU corner kick, Fiacco received the short corner and played it off a few defenders while attempting to cross the ball into the box. As the ball found Fiacco's feet, she played the ball back towards the corner kick taker, LaCasto, who served in a floating ball over the keep and into the back of the net with 71:44 on the clock.
The intensity continued as the Lions pushed to complete the comeback bid and erase the first half deficit. With LMU pushing, UC Santa Barbara scored on the game's final second to make it a 4-2 score line to end the game.
The goals by Schultz and Fiacco were their firsts of the season.
LMU will now play their final non-conference game of the season, at Seattle, this Thursday at 3 p.m.
Conference play begins at Sullivan Field on Saturday, Oct. 5 as Pacific comes to the Bluff to play a 7 p.m. game under the lights.
