Lions Earn Shutout Win to Cap Off Non-Conference Play

SEATTLE, Wash. – As the clock was ticking down just before halftime, the Lions had an opportunity to play keep away or push forward. LMU (1-7-2) decided to play the ball up field and after a poor clearance by the Seattle University (4-5-1) defender,  Simone Handy put her shot on frame to score the game's only goal.

"It feels great to get a result on the road against a good team," said Head Coach Michelle Myers. "We have been in games all season but the W's have been eluding us. Hopefully this gives us confidence and new life as we head into conference next weekend. We scored late in the first half and then again in the second only to have it called offsides. We kept pushing forward and stayed strong defensively to lock down the win. We are proud of the team and know they can continue to win games."

Sadie Kenny earned her first shutout and win of her young career, making two saves over her 90 minutes in net. LMU limited the Redhawks to just two shots on goal and seven total shots. The Lions finished with 11 shots and seven on target.

The Lions also earned more corner kicks than Seattle U., marking back-to-back games with seven from the corner flag.

The West Coast Conference portion of the schedule remains. LMU returns to Sullivan Field on Oct. 5 to face Pacific at 7 p.m.
