Lions Continue to Roll and Take Down Matadors

Jackson adds to school record with six straight shutout

The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (5-1-1) took down the #23 CSUN Matadors in thrilling fashion 2-0 for their fifth win of the season.

The #21 Lions, according to Top Drawer Soccer, got goals from Narciso Cervantes and Duhaney Williams while sophomore Jacob Jackson added to his school record consecutive scoreless game streak notching his sixth straight shutout.

The Lions came into the contest looking for their first road win of the season after a 0-0 draw against UC Riverside earlier in the week. LMU walked into Matador Soccer Field on Sunday night and were the aggressors from the opening whistle. Cervantes put the Lions first shot on the board in the ninth minute followed by Nick Dauchot's in the 20th. The Lions put up six shots in the half with two on goal and Cervantes' goal in the 34th minute, off the Dauchot assist, sent LMU into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Jackson was once again superb in goal for head coach Paul Krumpe. He faced six shots in the first half, two on goal, turning away the Matadors in the 13th and 22nd minute. He didn't let up in the second half as the Matadors put together 13 shots and three on goal. Jackson once again didn't let anything get behind him, adding to his school record of 560 consecutive scoreless minutes at goal.

LMU got the scoring started early in the second half when Williams' shot found the back of the net off the Cervantes assist. Cervantes and Dauchot were responsible for all of the scoring for the Lions. Each provided an assist on the night while Cervantes netted his first goal on the season early in the first stanza.

With a 2-0 lead the Lions put the clamps down on the defensive end and didn't allow the Matadors to score preserving their fifth win on the year.

The Lions continue their season-long four game road trip with a stop in San Luis Obispo on Thursday, Sept. 26 to take on the Cal Poly Mustangs with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
