The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (4-1-1) played in their first scoreless draw since the 2014 season on Thursday night against the Highlanders of UC Riverside at UCR Soccer Stadium marking their first game away from Sullivan Field.

The Lions entered the contest on a four-game winning streak by virtue of aggressive play on the offensive end and stellar performances from goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson. After the horn sounded on Thursday night Jackson became the LMU record holder for consecutive shutouts with five, surpassing the previous record of four he held with former Lion Paul Blanchette.

Jackson also set another school record on the night with his consecutive scoreless streak reaching 470 minutes. During the streak Jackson has seen 55 shots and has made 17 saves.Â

The Lions led in shots (21-12) and shots on goal (9-5) and had multiple chances to get the ball in the back of the net but couldn't take advantage of their opportunities.

LMU and the Highlanders were equal in almost every category after the first 45 minutes were played with the Lions trailing in shots (6-5), shots on goal (2-1) and leading corners (2-1).Â

In the second half LMU was the aggressor, taking the game to the Highlanders with 11 shots, seven on goal and two corners. The Lions put a flurry of shots on goal late in the game with
Danny Garcia's shot getting turned away in the 78
th minute as well as
Francis Avoce's and
Noel Caliskan's in the 81
st and 82
nd minute respectively.

Heading into the first overtime session the Lions
Brandon Sanchez had a chance to end the game but his shot on the bottom left side of the net got turned away by UCR. The Lions weren't able to get any shots on goal in the second overtime leading to their first draw of the season.

The Lions continue their four-game road trip with a stop in Northridge to take on the #23 Cal State Northridge Matadors, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Matador Soccer Field. Â
