The Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team (4-1) closed out their season-long five game home stand in fashion as they beat UC Davis 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field. The win, LMU's fourth straight, is the longest win streak since the 2015 season when the Lions rolled off five straight to open the campaign.
Â
The Lions got on the board early against the Aggies when
Francis Avoce's ball found the back of the net in the 8
th minute. The goal, Avoce's second of the season, was the only score of the game and proved to be all the Lions would need en route to the victory.
Â
The Lions and the Aggies traded both equal shots and corners in the first half with LMU and UC Davis netting six shots and two corners a piece. The Aggies committed more fouls than LMU in the first half but the Lions were able to keep the pressure on as the half ended with the Lions up by one.
Â
Neither team was able to get the ball into the back of the net in the second half but the Aggies outshot LMU 7-5 and had an advantage in corners at 1-0.Â
Â
LMU's
Jacob Jackson was strong once again in goal, posting his fourth straight shutout. Jacob's and the Lions outscored their opponents 8-2 during the five game homestand.Â
Â
The Lions will now head out on the road for the first time this season when they take on UC Riverside with kickoff set for Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The road test will be the first of four straight away from Sullivan Field for head coach
Paul Krumpe's team. The Lions return to Sullivan on Oct. 3 when UC Irvine pays a visit.
