Lions Fall to No.2 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (4-5) put up a fight against No. 2 Nebraska on the last day of the Nebraska Tournament on Saturday afternoon, but fell to the Cornhuskers 3-1. 
 
LMU vs. Nebraska – 31-33, 25-19, 25-20, 27-25
The Lions opened up set one on a strong note, as LMU took an early lead, but battled the Cornhuskers the entire set. A service error put the Lions on the board, and then a kill by Savannah Slattery gave the Lions their first lead. The teams tied things up 16 times and there were nine lead changes. Tied at 24-24, the teams started to battle for match point. Tied at 31-31, a kill from Slattery would make it 32-31, and then another by the senior gave the Lions their set win. 
 
Up 1-0, the Lions opened up set two with a 4-0 run and maintained the lead for more than half of the set. Nebraska responded, eventually taking the lead and then winning the set 25-19. 
 
Tied at 1-1, Rose Booth opened up set three with a kill, giving the Lions an early lead. There was only one lead change in the set, as Nebraska tied things up at 7-7, and then took the lead. There were seven lead changes in the set. Nebraska took set three 25-20. 
 
Set four was another neck and neck set for the Lions. Slattery opened the set with a kill, putting the Lions on the board. The Lions maintained their lead until Nebraska tied things up at 20-20, and then took the lead. The Lions were able to tie things back up, but couldn't take the lead back, losing set four 27-25, and losing the match 3-1. 
 
Up next: The Lions will be back on the road next weekend to participate in the Butler Tournament, where the team will take on Belmont University,  Illinois, and Butler university.
