LOS ANGELES – Despite earning all five second half corner kicks, and eight of the 10 of the corners of the match, it was San Jose State who found the back of the net to spoil LMU's home opener. The Spartans (1-0-2) scored in the 68
thminute to break a scoreless tie with LMU (0-2-1) and take the result.
The two sides played a scoreless first half, with LMU outshooting SJSU 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes. The Lions had their best scoring chance as
Maki Kono took a free kick in 16
thminute that hit the top crossbar and returned to action. Kono played all ninety minutes and finished with four shots, one fewer than the entire San Jose State team.
The Spartans committed 17 fouls in the game, compared to 12 from LMU.
San Jose State scored their lone goal in the 69

Despite the Lions attack, the clock did not provide any aid, as danger was averted in LMU's final corner attempt in the 89

The Lions will have a tough opponent to rebound against. No. 7 Penn State comes to Sullivan Field Sunday afternoon for the first game of the WCC/Big 10 Challenge. Following the match, Illinois and San Francisco will square off. One game ticket will grant admission to both games.
