LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- Loyola Marymount head softball coach
Sami Strinz-Ward was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year, while seven Lions were named to All-WCC Teams and one to Honorable Mention, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
This is Strinz-Ward's third Coach of the Year honor in four years. The LMU alumni is in her fourth year as the Lions' head coach and her fifth year with the program.
Strinz-Ward led the Lions to a 35-18 season, while going 11-4 in conference play, the best record under the head coach. The Lions have swept two of the four WCC teams and boast six WCC Player/Pitcher of the Week Awards under Strinz-Ward this season.
Three Lions were named to the All-West Coast Conference Softball First Team, including, pitcher
Hannah Bandimere, infielder
Andrea Gonzalez and outfielder
Molly Grumbo.
Bandimere leads the WCC in earned run average with a 1.95. The senior has pitched 150.2 innings and has 98 strikeouts.
Gonzalez is a team and conference leader in batting average, hits and total bases with .325, 53 and 80, respectively. The sophomore is second on the team in runs with 24.
Grumbo leads the team and is a conference leader in batting average, hits, runs scored and total bases with .342, 55, 30 and 84, respectively. Grumbo leads the team in stolen bases with 10.
Four Lions were named to the All-WCC Second Team including, infielder
Megan Dedrick, catcher
Irma Sanchez, pitcher
Linnay Wilson and infielder
Delanie Wisz.
Dedrick posts a .313 batting average for the Lions and has 19 RBIs, while Sanchez has a .290 batting average with 21 RBIs and 279 putouts.
Wilson has a 3.08 ERA across 79 innings pitched, while Wisz in a team leader in RBIs and putouts with 27 and 381.
Desiree Moreno was named All-WCC Honorable Mention.
The Lions are making their second post-season appearance this week, as the team will travel to Reno, Nev. to participate in the National Invitational Softball Championship.
