LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- Loyola Marymount head coach
John Mayer was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, while
Reka Orsi Toth was named WCC Freshman of the year. Eight other Lions were named to 2019 All-WCC Beach Volleyball First Team, Second Team and Freshman Team, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Mayer receives the conference honor after leading the Lions to their first Beach Volleyball West Coast Conference Championship. The Lions beat Pepperdine twice to take home their first-ever title, snapping the Waves three consecutive title streak.
Since his arrival in 2015, Mayer has taken the Lions from a 4-11 record, to a 27-11 overall record and a conference title. The Lions have had several ranked wins this season under Mayer, including, No. 17 GCU, No. 7 Cal Poly, No. 18 Saint Mary's and No. 5 Pepperdine.
Orsi Toth comes to LMU as a freshman transfer from Coastal Carolina, where she helped lead the Lions to their best overall record and conference record in program history, as the Lions went 9-2 in the WCC.
Orsi Toth went 13-5 from the No. 1 spot with partner
Savannah Slattery and went 16-4 from the No. 2 spot with partner
Megan Nash. The freshman and Nash clinched the match for Lions to beat Pepperdine for the first time in program history to advance to the final round.
The Italy native beat opponents from several ranked teams including, Pepperdine, Saint Mary's, Cal Poly and GCU.

Megan Nash, Orsi Toth,
Jessie Prichard and Savannay Slattery were all named to the 2019 All-WCC Beach Volleyball First Team. The Lions boast five athletes on the 10-man roster, as Pepperdine had three and Saint Mary's had two.
Kovac paired up with Prichard at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots and tallied up a 34-4 record. Nash spent the majority of her season at the No. 1 spot with
Bozena Culo and at the No. 2 spot with Orsi Toth. Slattery went 25-13 from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots with Culo and Orsi Toth.
Two Lions were named to the 2019 All-WCC Beach Volleyball Second Team, including Culo and
Emma Doud. Culo started at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, and then moved up to the No. 1 spot for the last half of the season.
Doud held down the No. 4 spot for the last part of the season, where she and partner
Veronica Nederend clinched the match for the Lions against Pepperdine to win the conference. Doud went 30-8 overall. Doud and Culo were two of eight named to the All-WCC Second Team.
WCC Freshman of the Year, Orsi Toth, was also named to the 2019, All-WCC Beach Volleyball Freshman Team with teammate
Ella Boehle. Boehle went 9-3 from the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
The Lions close out a historic season with a WCC Coach of the year title, Freshman of the Year, five All-WCC First Team athletes, two WCC All-WCC Second Team Athlets, and two All-WCC Freshman of the Year.
