LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The No. 13 Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team (17-8) put up a fight against No. 1 UCLA Wednesday afternoon, but couldn't keep up the pace, as the Bruins beat the Lions 4-1 at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center at UCLA. 
 
Playing two matches at a time, the pairs of Ella Boehle and Emma Doud, who played at the No. 4 position, along with Savannah Slattery and Reka Orsi Toth, who played at the No. 2 position, started the match off for the Lions. 
 
Boehle and Doud fell to Savvy Simo and Lea Monkhouse 21-14, 21-12, giving the Bruins the first point of the match. 
 
Slattery and Orsi Toth pushed Lily Justine and Sarah Sponcil to three sets and came out with a win to tie things up, 25-23, 11-21, 15-13. 
 
Tied at 1-1, the pairs of Veronica Nederend and Erin Martin, along with Megan Nash and Bo Culo took the courts. 
 
Nederend and Martin fell to Izzy Carey and Lindsey Sparks on court five, 21-10, 21-16, while Nash and Culo fell to Megan and Nicole McNamara on court one 21-16, 21-14, clinching the match for UCLA. 
 
Sara Kovac and Jessie Prichard were last up to play, falling to Zana Muno and Abby Van Winkle 21-13, 21-18, giving them only their third loss of the season. 
 
The Lions will be back on the road this weekend to head to Bakersfield to take on Ottawa University Arizona and CSU Bakersfield, which will be their last matches before the Hawaii Invitational.
