SANTA CRUZ, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team had an exceptional weekend at the Santa Cruz West Coast Conference Mid-Season Invitational, as the Lions took home first place after going 4-0.
The Lions took on Saint Mary's first on day two of the invitational, where LMU swept the Broncos 5-0.
Bo Culo and
Megan Nash beat Michelle Gajdka and Tessie Powers 21-15, 21-9 on court one, while
Reka Orsi Toth and
Savannah Slattery beat Alex Anthony and Chloe Loreen on court two 21-8, 21-14.
Sarah Kovac and
Jessie Prichard beat Kathryn Decker and Liliana Light on court three 21-9, 21-9, while
Erin Martin and
Veronica Nederend quickly beat Brittany Gillingham and Gretchen Reinert on court four, 21-6, 21-7.
Ella Boehle and
Emma Doud beat Alexa Dreyer and Natalia Rentsch on court five 21-11, 21-12, advancing the Lions to the Gold Medal match where they took on Saint Mary's.
The Lions kept up their momentum in the second match of the day, as they beat the No. 18 Gaels 4-1. Culo and Nash fell to Sarah Chase and Lindsey Knudsen on court one 21-17, 21-17.
Orsi Toth and Slattery defeated Emily Bible and Lindsey Calvin 21-16, 21-19, while Kovac and Prichard pushed Alexsa Parker and Sienna Young to three sets and came out with a win on court three, 21-13, 16-21, 15-12.
Martin and Nederend beat Chandler Cowell and Jennifer Laird 21-19, 21-15, while Boehle and Doud beat Selbie Christensen and Morgan Kendrick 21-18, 21-18.
The Lions undefeated 4-0 record secured them the first place spot at the invitational.
