Sky Flores recorded a season-high 13 saves to help Loyola Marymount women's water polo move 2-1 in the GCC and 15-8 overall with an 11-7 win over Fresno State.
Following a recognition of LMU's seven-member senior class, it was junior
Mollie Williams who opened the game with a goal for the Lions. The lead changed several times in the opening period, with FSU scoring the next two goals, and Hana VIlanova and
Serena Zafiris responding off a pair of Williams assists to hand the lead back to the Lions, 3-2. The Bulldogs scored with 41 seconds remaining to even the score at 3-all after the first eight minute period.
Williams scored the first three goals of the second quarter to build up a cushion that would last for the remainder of the game.
Morgan Molloy extended the lead with 23 seconds remaining of the half, and after not giving up a goal all quarter, took a 7-3 lead into intermission.
The Bulldogs began the third quarter with a goal on their opening possession, with
Katie Hungerford responding on LMU's ensuing offensive possession.
Marialena Seletopoulou extended the lead to 9-4 and found Molloy to push it to 10-4.
Fresno State scored the first goal of the fourth, before Seletopoulou converted a penalty shot to make it 11-5. With LMU shutting down their offense to use clock, Fresno State scored the final two goals of the game. Head Coach
Kyle Witt put in all of his seniors over the last stretch of action as LMU pulled out the 11-7 win.
The Lions now hit the road for three conference games, beginning next week in Northern California. LMU will take on Santa Clara on Friday at 3:30 and then travel to Stockton the following day.
