SANTA CRUZ, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team went 2-0 on its first day of the Santa Cruz West Coast Conference Mid-Season Invitational, as the Lions swept Portland and Pacific 5-0. 
 
The Lions started off round one on a strong note, as Bo Culo and Megan Nash beat Shalya Hoeft and Morgan Robinson on court one 21-12, 21-13, while Reka Orsi Toth and Savannah Slattery beat Katie Barker and Carey Williams on court two 21-16, 21-12. 
 
Sarah Kovac and Jessie Prichard picked up a quick win over Reghan Pukis and Emma Scanlan on court three, 21-7, 21-15. Erin Martin and Veronica Nederend cruised past Jessie Brigham and Sarah Strong on court four 21-8, 21-6. 
 
Ella Boehle and Emma Doud easily beat Kellie Hughs and Liz Reich on court five, 21-9, 21-8, giving the Lions the first win of the invitational. 
 
Up 1-0 on the day, Culo and Nash beat Alex Holt and Gabby Leo on court one 21-13, 21-14, while Orsi Toth picked up a win over Lauren Cline and Allison Denmann 21-13, 21-10. Kovac and Prichard picked up their 20^thwin of the season after beating Lucy Carpenter and Riley Patterson 21-10, 21-17 on court three. 
 
Martin and Nederend picked up an easy win over Kennedy Kaminsku and Jadyn Tubbs on court four 21-9, 21-13, while Boehle and Doud beat Alyna Abeleda-Mostajo and Sarah Bethea 21-6, 21-4, advancing the Lions to the second round where the team will take on the winner of Santa Clara and Pacific.
 
The Lions will take on the winner at noon on Saturday. Following the second round, the Bronze Medal Match will take place at 2 p.m., and then the Gold Medal Match will take place at 3 p.m.
