LOS ANGELES, Calif., - The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team (13-7) split Tuesday afternoon, as the team swept Oregon 5-0, but fell to No. 1 UCLA 5-0.
In their first match of the day, the No. 13 Lions took on the Ducks, where
Ella Boehle and
Emma Doud were the first pair to get LMU on the board, as they beat Lauren Page and August Raskie on court four 21-16, 21-19.
Savannah Slattery and
Reka Orsi Toth beat Maddy Silberger-Franek and Emily Mattoon on court two 27-25, 21-17, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Sarah Kovac and
Jessie Prichard picked up their 18
thwin of the season after beating Josie Cole and Ally Haden on court three, clinching the match for the Lions.
Veronica Nederend and
Erin Martin continues the momentum, beating Carly Wallace and Elise Ferreria on court five 21-14, 21-9, while
Megan Nash and
Bo Culo closed out the match with the last win for the Lions, beating Lindset Vander Weide and Brooke Nuneviller on court one 22-20, 21-17, giving the Lions the sweep.
Up 1-0 on the day, the Lions took on the No. 1 team in the nation, UCLA. Boehle and Doud fell to Mac May and Savvy Simo on court four, 21-16, 21-11, while Slattery and Orsi Toth fell to Sarah Sponcil and Madi Yeomans on court two 21-14, 21-19.
Nash and Culo fell to Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara on court one, 21-18, 21-10, clinching the match for UCLA.
Kovac and Prichard lost their second match of the season after Abby Van Winkle and Zana Muno beat the pair 21-17, 21-19. Nederend and Martin pushed Izzy Carey and Lindsey Sparks to three sets, but ended up losing 21-18, 16-21, 15-12.
The Lions will be back in the sand this Friday to participate in the Santa Cruz WCC Mid-Season Invitational. LMU will kick of the tournament against Portland, and then take on Pacific later that day.
