LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team never trailed on Saturday to pick up their first conference win of the season. The Lions (14-8, 1-1 GCC) topped GCC opponent Azusa Pacific, 11-8, at home.

Marialena Seletopoulou scored on LMU's opening two possessions to set the tone early with a 2-0 advantage. Seletopoulou added her second before the halfway mark of the quarter and
Abbey Grosse made it 4-0 with a goal at the 3:12 mark of the first. Once APU got on the board, Williams scored her second of the period with nine seconds remaining to give LMU a 5-1 edge after one.
The first goal of the second quarter did not come until 1:22 showed on the clock as
Melyssa Moore capitalized for the Lions. The Cougars scored in the final minute, sending the home team into halftime ahead 6-2.
After APU cut it to a 6-3 score,
Hana Vilanova scored her first of the period to push the lead back to four goals. The two teams traded off scoring the next two goals, with Seletopoulou having an answer after an APU goal. Vilanova closed out the third with a goal in the final six seconds of the quarter making it a 9-4 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
After Azusa Pacific scored the opening goal of the fourth, Williams completed her hat trick with the third of the day. Reigning GCC Player of the Week Seletopoulou finished her fourth of the day before two consecutive APU goals cut LMU's lead to 11-8 with 40 seconds remaining. The Lions kept the ball away on their final possession to run down the clock. The Cougars missed on their final possession, making it final.
Sky Flores recorded 11 saves for the win.
The Lions return to Burns Aquatics Center for a single game on Saturday, Mar. 30 against GCC opponent Fresno State. The game will begin at 12.00 p.m., and close out LMU's home stand.
