LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount University women's water polo (13-8, 0-1 GCC) fell in their conference opener on Friday night, 9-7, to San Diego State. The Lions dropped the match, putting an end their nine-game win streak.
LMU started the game in a 3-1 deficit, but brought it within one goal to close out the first. After the Aztecs opened the game with a powerplay goal,
Mollie Williams tied the score at 1-all. SDSU scored the next two before newly named GCC Player of the Week
Marialena Seletopoulou scored to bring it to 3-2 with 21 seconds remaining.
San Diego State opened the second quarter with a goal, Seletopoulou again had an answer on the ensuing LMU possession. After those two first minute goals,
Morgan Molloy scored back-to-back goals to tie the score and then take the lead with 2:02 on the clock to take a 5-4 lead into the half.
Abbey Grosse extended the lead with a goal scored at the 4:43 mark of the third, but SDSU quickly got one back 30 seconds later and tied the score at 6-6 with 2:59 showing.

Melyssa Moore to give LMU an early fourth quarter lead, but the Aztecs closed out the game with the final three goals to secure victory.
Sky Flores made nine saves in the defeat.
The Lions return to Burns Aquatics Center Saturday at noon to take on Azusa Pacific.
