Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount men's tennis team put up a fight during their first stint of matched in Texas, as they fell to Southern Methodist University 5-2 on Thursday.
"Tough day at the office today versus SMU," said head coach
Tom Lloyd. "We continue to battle real life situations that are out of our control as a team. We had our opportunities today and just didn't execute on the right points. Good thing is, we get another opportunity in less than 48 hours."
The Lions (2-6) started the day off in doubles play, where
Lukas Moenter and
Thien Nguyen were defeated on court one 6-4, while the doubles tandem of
Diego Nava and
Ethan Prost fell to their opponents on court two 6-3.
Down 1-0, the Lions fought back in singles play, but couldn't come out with the win. Moenter pushed his opponent to three sets on court one, but fell 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4), while Nava fell after a neck and neck second set against his opponent, 6-4, 7-6(8) on court two.
Max Kaiser also pushed his opponent to three sets at the No. 3 spot, but fell 5-7, 6-1, 6-3. Prost was defeated 6-2, 6-4 on court four.
Austin Di Giulio easily defeated Gardiner Perotti on court five, 6-0, 6-2, while
Lucas Moreno beat Huntley Allen on court six, 6-4, 6-3, putting two points on the board for the Lions.
The Lions will continue their trip in Texas and take on TCU on Saturday. LMU is looking to bounce back against the Horned frogs, as they fell 4-0 in their last match earlier this season.
