CLAREMONT, Calif. – #12-ranked Loyola Marymount women's water polo moved to 7-7 on the season with two wins on Saturday at the Claremont Convergence. The Lions outscored their two opponents 27-9 over the two games.
GAME 1: #12 LMU 14, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 5
Three different Lions scored in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead after one.
Mollie Williams scored first, with
Morgan Molloy following, and
Marialena Seletopoulou scoring with two minutes on the clock.
LMU extended the lead to 5-0 after
Hana Vilanova scored the first two goals of the second period. The first four goals of the game were on the powerplay with Vilanova's second of the game scored on a 5-Meter penalty. CMS scored their lone goal of the half with 1:30 on the clock to make it a 5-1 game at intermission.
With three-straight goals to open the third quarter, LMU built the lead up to 8-1 after Molloy,
Abbey Grosse, and
Megan Plank scored. Once the Athenas got one back, LMU closed out the third quarter with three more as Molloy scored a pair and
Serena Zafiris added one of the final possession on the quarter.
The two teams traded off goals in the final quarter, with
Mei Vilanova scoring all three for the Lions over the final eight minutes.
Sky Flores made eight saves in goal before Ali Keunen took over for the final 5:01.
GAME 2: #12 LMU 13, St. Francis 4
Similar to the first game, LMU jumped out to a large lead to open things against St. Francis. The Lions scored the first five goals of the contest, before St. Francis got on the board.
Marialena Seletopoulou scored a pair to kick things off before
Hana Vilanova bookended a
Mollie Williams goal with 2:17 remaining. Williams made it a 6-1 game after one with her goal with 48 seconds remaining.
LMU added the first three goals of the second quarter as Meil Vilanova and
Melyssa Moore scored goals on the advantage and
Serena Zafiris scored with 1:45 to play and at even strength. The Terriers closed out the second with a pair to make it a 9-3 game at the break.
All four goals of the third quarter were scored by LMU.
Isabella Barajas scored three consecutive, and
Julie Zanobini added one of her own.
St. Francis scored the lone goal of the fourth quarter.
Sky Flores recorded six saves as LMU's goalkeeper.

LMU will play a 10:15 am game against Virginia Military Institute before closing out the tournament with a 2:00 pm matchup against Sonoma State. The Lions will compete at Pomona-Pitzer's Halderman Pool.
