LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount men's basketball (16-7, 4-5 WCC) has a chance to win their 11th game of the season at Gersten Pavilion on Thursday night, which would be the most in Head Coach
Mike Dunlap's five seasons.
The Lions have matched their 2016-17 home win total already, starting the season 10-1 at Hank's House. That teams two years ago went 10-7 on The Bluff.
While LMU will play to defend home court, San Diego (15-8, 4-4 WCC) comes into the game looking to take the season series from the Lions. The two teams met in San Diego on Jan. 24, a game in which the Lions hit just one three-pointer.
In that first game two weeks ago,
James Batemon led all scorers with 17 points. Both
Eli Scott and
Mattias Markusson added 13 points apiece.
The Toreros enter Thursday a half a game ahead of the Lions in the WCC standings, with each team winning five games through the first stretch of conference play.
LMU posted their, "best defensive game since I've been here," according to Dunlap, the last time the team played at home. The Lions limited Pacific to 30.6 percent shooting, including 24.0 percent in the first half, on Jan. 31 to win 60-42. The 42 points allowed that night was the fewest by an LMU team since beating Pacific, 43-42, on Feb. 28, 1964.
The game will tip at 7 p.m. and stream on TheW.tv. The Lunar New Year will also be celebrated throughout the game and a special halftime Lion Dance performance. The Lions then travel to Portland for a Saturday night game at Portland before hosting Gonzaga and BYU on Feb. 14 and 16, respectively.
