The Loyola Marymount Lions (4-3) played with fire for a majority of the day and it ultimately caught up with them Sunday afternoon as they fell 7-1 to Saint Louis (3-4).

Saint Louis put up threats against LMU in the first and third and ultimately plated a run in the top of the third after Colten Schild and Jake Garella both singled with Schild eventually scoring on a passed ball by Lions starter
CJ Fernandezees (0-1).

The Billikens were able to chase Fernandezees in the top of the fourth allowing redshirt sophomore
Giuseppe Benedetti to come in relief and shut the door on Saint Louis in that half of the inning. Benedetti was solid in the fifth as well, only allowing a single to Ben Livorsi that was quickly followed by the Lions'
Brandon Shearer's first of two double plays on the day.Â

The Lions threatened in the bottom of the fifth, with a single by freshman
Tommy Delgado and
Ryan Kawano's walk but were unable to push any runs across.

Saint Louis managed to increase their lead to 3-0 as sophomore
Josh Robins, coming in for Benedetti with two runners on, walked the only three batters he faced and was then replaced by redshirt junior
Kyle Mora who got the final out of the inning.

The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore
Kenny Oyama scored of off
Trevin Esquerra's foul ball to deep left field. Oyama struck out in his plate appearance but was able to get on board when the ball passed by the Billikens Livorsi.Â

Saint Louis put the game out of reach for the Lions when they scored four times in the top of the seventh extending the lead to 7-1, which ultimately was the final at Page Stadium wrapping up the three-game series.

The Lions, who took two out of three over the weekend, have a day off on Monday and are back at Page to face UC Irvine with first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m.  Â
