PHOENIX, Ariz., -- The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team starts its season undefeated after beating No. 16 GCU 3-2 and swept ASU and New Mexico 5-0.
The Lions (3-0) took on the Antelopes in their first match of the season Friday night, where
Reka Orsi Toth and
Savannah Slattery beat their opponents on court one, 21-11, 21-17, while
Megan Nash and
Emma Doud forced their opponetns to three sets on court two, and came out with the win 22-20, 21-19, 15-11.
Jessie Prichard and
Sara Kovac won on court four, 21-18, 21-15.
Bo Culo and
Megan Rice were defeated on court three, 21-15, 21-19, while
Erin Martin and
Veronica Nederend were beat 21-16, 21-18 on court five, but that wasn't enough to beat the Lions, as the team picked up its first win of the season.
Up 1-0 on the season, the Lions took on Arizona State, where they quickly swept the Sun Devils 5-0.
Slattery and Orsi Toth pushed their opponents to three sets at the No. 1 spot 16-21, 22-20, 16-14, while Nash and Doud beat their opponents 21-16, 21-14 on court two. Rice and Culo picked up a quick 21-17, 21-12 win on court three, while Prichard and Kovac won on court four 21-16, 16-21, 15-4. Nederend and Martin won 21-19, 21-19 on court five.
The Lions closed out their weekend against New Mexico, where LMU picked up its second sweep on the weekend and it third win.
Orsi Toth and Slattery won on court one 21-16, 21-17, while Nash and Doud picked up a win on court two, 21-16, 21-16. Rice and Culo picked up an easy win over their opponents on court three 21-12, 21-14. Kovac and Prichard won 21-14, 21-17 on court four, and Nederend and Martin won on court five after three sets, 21-15, 18-21, 15-11.
The undefeated Lions will be back in the sand on Wednesday Feb. 27 to take on USC in Los Angeles.
