LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team battled it out until the end against Pacific on Senior Day, but the team fell 81-75 on Senior Day in Gersten Pavilion.Â

"Obviously disappointed in the outcome but I thought we battled hard," said head coach
Charity Elliott. "Wish we could have sent the seniors off with a win but this doesn't lessen how much we appreciate them.  On to the next one."

LMU got off to a slow start, as the Tigers went on a 15-3 run before the Lions responded. Pacific took a 14-point lead of the game first quarter, their largest lead of the game.Â

LMU responded second quarter, as
Chelsey Gipson opened the quarter with a three-point shot. The Lions took the lead after
Andee Velasco made a three-point shot. The Lions left the half up 37-36.Â

The teams battled it out in the second half, as there were eight lead changes and seven ties. The Lions kept the lead the rest of the third quarter after
Cierra Belvin made a layup. The Lions left the third up 58-55.Â

Belvin opened up the fourth quarter with a basket, but Pacific responded and tied things up. The teams tied four times before Pacific took the lead, the Lions fought, but were never able to take the lead back, giving Pacific a 81-75 win.Â

Gipson led the team in points and assists, with 24 and five. Fifteen of Gipson's points came from three-point shots, while she also had five assists and four rebounds.
Jasmine Jones and
Gabby Green were also point-leaders, as they had 13 a piece.
Bree Alford led the team in rebounds with six.Â

The Lions shot 42 percent from beyond the arch, compared to Pacific's 36 percent, while LMU also went 42 percent from the field. The Lions had 19 assists and nine steals, compared to the Tigers' 18 and seven.Â

LMU will take its last regular season road trip next week to take on Portland and Gonzaga, with the conference tournament to follow.Â
