LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team is set to kick off its 2019 season this weekend on the road, as the team will head to Phoenix, Ariz. To take on No. 16 Grand Canyon University, Arizona State and New Mexico. 
 
The Lions will kick off this weekend's match ranked No. 15 by the AVCA Preseason Poll and boast three ALL-WCC Team members including, Sara Kovac, Jessie Prichard and Savannah Slattery. 
 
Last season, the Lions met with New Mexico and the then ranked No. 11 GCU, where LMU picked up a quick 4-1 over the Lobos, but fell 4-1 to the Antelopes. The Lions last played ASU in 2017, where LMU won 4-1. 
 
GCU will be the only ranked team the Lions play this weekend, ASU and New Mexico both received preseason poll votes. 
 
LMU's first match of the 2019 season will be against GCU on Friday at 5:00 p.m. The Lions will pick back up on Saturday, starting with ASU at 10:00 a.m. and then finish their last match of the weekend against New Mexico at 11:15 a.m.
